Survey Merit BadgeJune 24th 2006 Attached is a picture of the first Survey Merit Badge that we taught on Saturday, June 24th2006 It was a learning experience for me as well. This was with Boy Scout Troop #104 from the Lake Arrowhead area.
Thank you to the members of Boy Scout Troop 104 for your attendance and interest in Land Surveying. It was a blistering hot day with a lot of new information packed into it. We studied some survey history, ran a five sided traverse with side shots to topographic features, set elevations with a level, drew a map of the traverse, did a GPS geo cache hunt and wrote a metes & bounds legal description all in one day. I hope they will consider a career in surveying one day. You guys did great!
Also thanks to the Inland Fish & Game Conservation Association (a.k.a. the gun club) in Highland for allowing us to use your land and club house facilities.
I want to say a big THANK YOU to Dee Smith, Tom Williams & Dave Eickhoff. This would have been a disaster without their help. Their knowledge and enthusiasm was inspiring.
Thanks to all for your support.
